The Annual Winter Social: Fun and Games

The Winter Social event on January 30th from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm, provided by the student council, has generated a lot of excitement and attention among students at BIFU because of its various exciting activities, such as an interactive laser tag event, which is why many attended. Also linked with the event was an eighth-grade after-party, from 8:30 pm to 9:50 pm, which included games, hair and nails, and much more.

Laser tag is something that hasn’t been introduced before, so it was a big hit, and many are intrigued by the idea of having fun with friends while also being competitive.

“Last year when we were in sixth grade, we had small laser tag events outside of school, and it was so fun because I got to beat all my classmates and I had so much fun,” Mulan Ding (7) stated. “I would love to bring that experience to BASIS for everyone.”

Laser tag rooms were separated for different teams, one in C13 and one in C14. There was also a room for chilling (C11) to talk with friends while eating snacks and pretzels, and one for games (C12) where students could play UNO, Battleship, and much more, with everyone when waiting for their turn.

“I liked the chill and game rooms. We were able to hang out there when we were taking a break from laser tag.” Martin Xu (7) stated. The arena took place in the MPR, with lights dimmed and fun obstacles to hide behind when not seen. It was around four to five minutes per round, with team red versus team blue on opposite sides of the MPR. Coach Pappas was watching over the games and commenting on which side won after the given time limit.

Veronica Yuen (7), a member of the three-time-winning team, commented, “It was so good and so amazing, and it was really fun because we crafted a whole game plan…all the girls were connected…we knew exactly who was in charge, what gun settings everyone would be on, and that was really fun.”

Reservations and waivers were also necessary to participate in a round of laser tag for all students attending, which kept the party organized and fair. “I think the reservations were pretty straightforward, pretty fair,” Yuen commented. “Because if there weren't any reservations, it would be very messy and people could go three times, and some people could only go once.”

After the sixth and seventh graders had departed, the eighth graders had a blast on their own. The eighth-grade after-party had high attendance, and everyone participated in activities such as a hair and nails room, a piñata to whack, candy, pizza, and a game room.

“I mainly wanted to spend time with friends. I really enjoyed that they had different rooms for different things.” Geo Young (8) stated.

“All these events connected together definitely made this night memorable. I would definitely be interested to come if this was happening next year,” Xu said. Overall, students had an amazing time with friends and beating players in laser tag, while also sharing a memorable experience for this year’s event.
