“I've been told that it came from a song. Personally, I don't even think half of the student body knows what "6-7" means or where it came from.”, said Mr. Loero.
Mr. Loero is correct about the song part, in fact, this all started back in December of 2024, when the song by American Rapper Skrilla called “Doot Doot (6 7)” was leaked 3 months before its official release date. At the time, it was overlooked until a clip of high school basketball player Taylen Kinney ranking a Starbucks drink by saying “6-7” became viral. Even after this, though, the trend would not really take off until the 31st of March 2025, when another clip took the internet by storm.
In this clip, a student named Maverick Trevillian said “6-7” while making a hand gesture along with it. After this, the phrase, the clip, and the hand gesture all became a huge trend over social media, with memes and edits of the clip even giving the Trevillian the title of “67 kid”. The meme’s growth would flatline over the summer, but as soon as school started up, the meme began growing again at a rapid rate, though its exact origins were lost in its spread and eventually the only thing that most students can recall is the meme itself. Now, it has traveled all around the internet, even inspiring a six-seven emoji in the video game Clash Royale, and earning itself the distinguished title of Dictionary.com’s word of the year.
So if this trend has really gotten this popular across the internet, then how widespread is it here, at BIFU?
“Students walk into the classroom yelling "6-7" before they even say "hi." They'll answer class related questions with "6-7," they'll blurt out "6-7" at random times with no prompting, they'll lose their minds if the numbers 6 and/or 7 ever pop up during class — like if the year 1776 is brought up.” says Mr. Loero.
“6-7” is everywhere, and it has also managed to make its way into BIFU becoming a prevalent trend among the 350 or so students within the school. If it is common within the classrooms, then it is doubtless that much of the student body would know of the meme by now.
Overall, “6-7” is here and it is here to stay, at least for a while. Other trends have died out before, and at some point so too will “6-7”. For now though, “6-7” will continue to be the weird, mindless, and unusual trend that permeates the school.
“I have never encountered a fad that is so nonsensical, so disruptive, so mindlessly ridiculous as ‘6-7,’" says Mr. Loero. “Even more horrifying: I think that's the point.”
